Workshop Mechanical Fitter

Pumps, Motors, Gearboxes and Rotating equipment.

An exciting opportunity is available for a time served workshop mechanical fitter to join a well established skilled team overhauling customer’s rotating equipment.

Customer base scopes the industry from Power and Renewable energy providers through water utilities and aggregate companies including many others in many sectors.

As a workshop fitter you will be involved in the dismantling, rebuild and refurbishment of pumps, gearboxes, motors, generators and similar equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring all inspection and assembly documentation is completed and procedures, policies and work instructions are followed.

What the role involves

  • Repairs to all types of rotating equipment.
  • Dismantling, inspection, condition assessment and subsequent report on received equipment.
  • Fault finding of industrial electro mechanical equipment.
  • Carrying out root cause analysis of assets.
  • Working on site and in the workshop when required.
  • Operating specialised equipment such as test panels, test equipment, stoving ovens etc.
  • Working within and contributing towards the current health & safety guidelines and site requirements.
  • Good team working skills as well as working on own initiative.
  • Promote good housekeeping for an efficient working environment.
  • Undergo training programmes where necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes


  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role
  • Strong engineering background in a similar environment.
  • Recognised mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Team and communication skills.
  • Capable of working alone, or equally as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to quality of work.
  • Flexible approach to working times in line with company’s reactive nature.


  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Multi skilling an advantage.
  • Experience with pumps, gearboxes, motors and fans.
  • Confined space qualification.
  • Working within ATEX standards.
  • Water Hygiene qualified.

As part of the team at MKE you can expect a competitive base salary with 25 days annual leave plus statutory bank holidays, pension etc. standard working hours are Monday – Friday 0800hrs to 1630hrs but work outside of these hours may be required.
