THAMES WATER - HADLOW
MAY 2025
Southern Waters’ principle engineering supply partner delivers a turnkey biofiltration solution in the heart of Kent.
THE CHALLENGE:
MKE Engineering Group continue to demonstrate their ability in large scale project management with their latest installation at Hadlow Sewage treatment works. In operation since 1977, the bio filtration system required modernisation as part of Southern Waters’ environmental continuous improvement programme. Southern Waters’ principle engineering supply partner delivers a turnkey biofiltration solution in the heart of Kent.
THE SOLUTION:
Managing the operation of the site and the organisation of multiple contractors under CDM regulations, MKE created access into the filter bed and carefully re-moved the existing filter arms and centre column. Observing EWC 170504 the residual media was removed and disposed of off site. Double ring tension walls were erected with a new pre-cast concrete filter tile system in addition to an entire UPVC ventilation pipework cowling assembly. A new Ham Baker Adams self delivery centre column was installed with nozzles and washout valves designed to deliver a maximum of 53 litres per second.
SUMMARY
After all high visual ropes were located the air locks were tested and commissioned. MKE have supported Southern Waters powertrain and fluid management systems for years. The inclusion of a civil element is an impressive and welcome addition. MKE are ready to support Southern Water on the next multidisciplinary project.
